Gallery78 exhibits drawings and etchings by eminent artists including Champa Sharath, Madhumita Das, Nandini Goud, Komakula Rajasekhara, Rajashree Nayak, Ryan Abreu, Sonal Varshneya, Sripad Gurav, Sumanto Chowdhary, and Viraj Naik in a show titled Bonded by Work.
More than anything else it is the passion for printmaking that brings this group of artists together. It is their love for the medium that keeps them going otherwise the decision to practice as a professional printmaker is no different than traversing against the current or walking on dire straits.
Printmaking is the chosen medium by these artists from the wide arrays of media they can choose to work in. The intricate, manual, organic, lengthy, and precise techniques have become a part and parcel of their way of life and an extension of their entities.
Regardless of the intensity and form of support/response, they receive these artists are on a mission, a single-headed direction that empowers them and lifts them above all inhibitions and restraints. They are all set to re-establish the ambiance of the ’70s when Hyderabad was a prominent center of printmaking in the country and the State Lalit Kala Akademy was established in the city. These printmakers are working hard towards keeping the name of Hyderabad on the art map as a major center of print-making practices. Their self-sustained efforts are appreciable, they command attention and their apt mastery of the medium speaks volumes about their potential.
